Incontrare il passato tra le strade di Ferrara non è difficile. L’arduo sta nel comprenderlo.
Durante questo laboratorio ci siamo scontrati con il restauro della XVI° cella della Certosa di Ferrara, divenuta con lo scorrere del tempo parte del cimitero cittadino.
Un’attenta fase di rilievo strumentale e fotografico, correlata a una adeguata ricerca archivistica, ci ha permesso di riscoprire le fasi evolutive della struttura e di leggere più chiaramente i segni del tempo lasciati su di essa.
Una sensibilità critica assieme alle considerazioni sulle funzioni attuali del complesso e sulle caratteristiche documentaristiche dello stesso, ci ha portato a optare per un restauro di tipo conservativo che non stravolgesse la cella ma che interrompesse, o quantomeno limitasse il più possibile, le azioni del tempo e della mal gestione cause di degrado.

Meeting the past on the streets of Ferrara is not hard. The hardest part is to understand it.
During this workshop, we had to face the restoration of the 26th cell of the monumental cemetery of Ferrara, which over the centuries has become part of the city cemetery.
A careful series of instrumental and photographical evaluations, together with the appropriate research in the archives, allowed us to rediscover the evolution phases of the structure and to read more clearly the signs of time.
Our critical awareness, together with the evaluation of the functions of the complex and of its documentary features, led us to choose a conservative intervention which did not alter the cell, interrupting – or at least reducing – the damages caused by time and maladministration.
